Hard work… great disappointment

CRANBOURNE BOWLS

CRANBOURNE were in a winning position in Division 1 bowls on Saturday, before going down on the last end of the day by two shots to Fitzroy who now sit second on the ladder.
“The result was a great disappointment after doing the hard work against quality opposition only to fall over on the last end of the day,” said head coach Steve Arthur after the game.
“We must now regroup and take on Glen Waverley who are one-spot ahead of us on the ladder”.
In Division 1, Ray Travica and his team were the big winners of the day with eight-shots up. Ray was pleased with his team of Blyth, Gascoigne and Lyfield, claiming that they bowled very consistently all day.
Skip Steve Arthur had a seven-shot win which was also a good result from his team. Skip Lyn Quigg lost by five shots but he said after the game that everyone in his side tried hard but were out bowled on the day. Peter Colthup was disappointed that despite playing well for most of the day his team lost valuable shots on the last two ends. A must-win game coming up next week to keep in touch with the four.
Division 2 Cranbourne played Hampton Park away and were soundly defeated by 32 shots. Skips Gary Farrington and Matt Boltong had narrow losses while skips Joe Byrne and Neil Fell and their sides had a difficult day
There was also no joy in Division 3 away to Mulgrave Country Club losing on all rinks by 43 shots.
But a 17-shot win for Division 4 against Hampton Park at home put a smile on the faces of at least three of the teams.
Division 7 travelled to Moorabbin to record a great win and give the club two wins out of five for the day.
