Just too big

WE WOULD like all Berwick Village residents made aware of a planning application currently before Casey Council for the development of 21 Langmore Lane with a total site area of 1758 square metres (22m frontage, maximum depth 83m). The site is two blocks up from the RSL.
It is proposed to build a three-storey block of 20 apartments, with basement car parking for 20 cars (17 residents, three visitors). The ground floor – four apartments and 16 resident car parks, first level – seven apartments, second level – seven apartments, third level – two apartments and rooftop terrace. Effectively four levels above ground.
If council approves this high density living on a 1758 square metre block of land it would then set a precedent for all large blocks within the Berwick Village.
City of Casey’s Framework Plan for the Future (Clause 21.05.2) says in part “To maintain the distinctive canopy tree character of the Berwick Township and its immediate environs.” How could this development happen without complete removal of all vegetation on the block, which includes 38 mentioned trees in the arborist’s report.
We object strongly to inner city high density type developments in Berwick Village area – it’s well-known as a leafy, country environment the very reason we live here.
Having family going back to the 1920s in Berwick, we are very sad that council should even consider this type of height and density and degradation of landscape and heritage values.
We are sending our opposition to the City of Casey.
W. and M. Goodwin,
Berwick.
