CRANBOURNE RSL BOWLS
TUESDAY
Cranbourne RSL remains undefeated with a three shot victory over Burden Park. John Spencer’s team again the leading light with an eight-shot win.
Results: Ray Bligh, Colin Butler, Tom Bonney and John Spencer 22-14. Denise Meulman, Barry Rogers, Helena Rogers and Ray Chapman 13-21. Paul Males, Graham Dore, Marg McIntyre and Yvonne van der Wees 21-18.
SATURDAY
Division 2: Cranbourne RSL lost a close game to Berwick 74-82. Scores were level with a few ends to go but Berwick finished a little better than the RSL. Both sides won two rinks each which shows how close the result was. Ken Hocking’s team led nearly all day to record a five shot win, while Bill Bradbury’s stunning seven shots near the end got them over the line by two.
Results: Fred Scicluna, Barry Graham, Ray Chapman and Yvonne van der Wees 17-21. Jim Grant, Karen Hickson, Steve Hickson and Walter Brannan 15-26. Alan Reynolds, Ricky Crawford, Wally Ballard and Bill Bradbury 23-21. John Vowles, Ken Walker, Jesus Carretero and Ken Hocking 19-14
Division 5: Cranbourne RSL went down to Waverley Golf 67-83. Their only winning team was John Spencer’s nine-shot victory. There is a lot of new bowlers this year in this division so it may take a few games to gel.
Results: Laurie Meagher, Ray Bligh, Ken McLeod and Maree Hodges 13-26. Ietje Maat, Kate Currie, Rob Elliott and John Spencer 25-16. Denise Meulman, Graham Dore, Cyril Arlove and Max Eames 16-17. Marijan Bobetic, David Angee, Marg McIntyre and Michael Ryan 13-24.
Division 8 – Team 3: Cranbourne RSL had a good win over Narre Warren 50-37, with Percy Leake’s team starting the season in grand style with a 12-shot win, while Doug Ambrose won a thriller by one shot.
Results: Harry Mills, Aggie Pichard, Greg Jones and Percy Leake 28-16. Hank Reefman, Paul Kofler, Chris Stephenson and Doug Ambrose 22-21.
Team 4: The RSL had a game to forget with a 28-67 loss to Noble Park. However Arthur Underwood’s team got Cranbourne two points with a 17-16 victory.
Results: Joe Hart, Peter Campion, Murry Bulte and Arthur Underwood 17-16. Marg Mills, Joe Oxenbury, Max Pearson and Brian Mason 11-51.
King of the Rink Award: Percy Lake’s team – 12 shots up.
