GLENN Michie has been appointed the new senior coach of Devon Meadows Football Club.
Michie replaces Brent Clinnick for the 2015 Nepean Football League season after Clinnick decided he would not continue at the club.
As a player, Michie’s resume is extensive. He played 286 senior games across several clubs which included two premierships. He also played in eight senior grand finals. He was the leading goal kicker at multiple clubs a total of eight times, including a 100-plus haul for Newborough in 1999. He would also be an Interleague representative nine times across several leagues.
He began coaching at Langwarrin Football club as a playing assistant coach in 2009 before moving on to Hastings Football Club in 2010. It was there he would be a playing coach for three years leading the club to a grand final they would go on to lose by one point to Sorrento in 2011.
He spent 2014 at the club where it all started, Newborough, taking them to a grand final where they would also lose by one point to Mirboo North.
Michie was excited with the appointment.
“Living up here, it fitted in to my life… but they also have a strong list, a strong club and a strong committee which I am looking forward to being a part of.”
And yes, he will be playing again this season.
“My body is still responding. I haven’t missed a game for some time now.
“I turn 34 next year so I think I have limited time left so I better make the most of it.”
When asked about Michie, Devon Meadows club President Peter Blundy had nothing but positives to say.
“As a club we’re very happy with what we’ve got.” he said.
“He fits everything we’re looking for.
“We interviewed a number of candidates and he was the last to be interviewed.
“There were several that had the credentials but he came over the top of them all… we knew we had to grab him while we could… he was very keen to do the job.”
