Body found at tip

Update 2.45pm:

POLICE believe the body of a man found dead at the Hallam Road Landfill today was dumped there by a truck earlier in the morning.
Police were called to the landfill, in Hampton Park, after a machinery operator discovered the man’s body about 8am.
Homicide Squad Detective Senior Sergeant Shane O’Connell said the worker located the body while clearing rubbish, and originally thought it was a manikin.
The Homicide Squad attended the scene and have yet to identify the man, but believed he was in his forties or fifties.
Det Sen Sgt O’Connell said there were no missing males of interest and police were treating the death as suspicious.
He said police believed the body was brought in by truck sometime this morning and dumped, but were unsure how long the man had been dead.
“The coroner is investigating at the moment and will do a post-mortem,” he said.
“It’s very disturbing.
“No-one deserves to be in the position this gentlemen has found himself in.”
Det Sen Sgt O’Connell said the employee who found the body was coping quite well.
“Obviously it was a very stressful situation for him but he’s holding up quite well,” he said.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
