A CORAL Park Primary School student has become the first recipient this year of an award which recognises community spirit and leadership skills.
Each year Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley presents Community, Spirit and Leadership Awards to one grade four student from each primary school in the electorate.
Teachers select award winners who are regarded as having the potential to play a future leadership role in the community.
Ms Graley visited Coral Park Primary School in Hampton Park recently to present the first award for this year to Riley Evans.
“Award winners display a range of qualities, including being considerate of others, civic minded and demonstrating initiative,” Ms Graley said.
“Riley is an outstanding young man and leader who has taken it upon himself to help those in need.
“He is a fantastic role model for his classmates and I have no doubt that he will go on to play an important leadership role within our community.”
His teacher Anita Broomhall said Riley was a polite and well-mannered student who excelled in literacy and maths.
“He completes his homework each week to an excellent standard.
“Riley is also a keen and extremely talented sportsman.
“Earlier this year, Riley supported the charity CanTeen by raising about $2000 for which he cut his long golden locks.
“We are all very proud of Riley and this award will put him in good stead for future leadership roles within our school and community.”
