Tree safety

I am writing in response to Mr Horner’s letter (Safety Shepherd, Cranbourne News, 21 August).
I want to assure Mr Horner and residents from the Settler’s Run and Botanic Ridge estates that council has no intention on removing trees from these estates en masse.
Recently, I have received an increasing number of enquiries from concerned residents about the impact some large eucalypt trees are having on homes in these estates.
The safety of our residents is our top priority.
In response to the concerns raised, at its meeting on 19 August 2014 council resolved to investigate the matter further by meeting with representatives from the estates and Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne to discuss the tree design covenant for this area.
We will continue to keep residents of the estates informed of this matter.
Cr Geoff Ablett,
City of Casey Mayor.
