Macleod kicks a winner

By JARROD POTTER

THE step up to VWFL Division 1 has paid off for Cranbourne forward Kirsten Macleod.
Macleod, 20, from Sandhurst, earned the goal-kicking honours in the division after booting 27 for the season from her 13 games in the top side.
With Cranbourne’s season ending at the hands of Eastern Devils on Saturday afternoon, the solitary major Macleod kicked took her tally to the final total of 27, to lead Eastern Devils’ Michelle Palmer (22) and Knox midfielder – formerly playing in the South East Juniors – Kristy Stratton (21).
Macleod also featured in two matches for Cranbourne’s Division 3/4 team and kicked another five goals in that side to take her total to an impressive 32 for the season.
“It feels good knowing that I’ve participated in helping my team with the goals I have kicked, but I’m probably in for the most behind kicked as well,” Macleod said.
“It’s great to see just how far Cranbourne has come this year, with not knowing half the women when the season started and how we have all come together and produced football the way we have in both teams – Division 3 and Division 1.
“Yeah it has been good,” Macleod said of the chance to play in the VWFL’s second tier competition.
“It’s pretty tough on the body – there are harder hits in Division 1 – but it has been great.”
She wanted to thank the Cranbourne Women’s Football Club – especially the coaches Shaun Smith and Keith Edwards – as well as the trainers and other volunteers that help make the Eagles possible.
