Eagles go underdog

By JARROD POTTER

Southern Football League and Victorian Amateur Football Association

THE end of a trying season – after promotion into Division 2 – ended on Saturday for Doveton Eagles.
The might of finals-bound Mordialloc proved too much for the Eagles to comprehend – as the Power Reserve boys were downed at home by 61 points.
The Bloodhounds waltzed past the Eagles to kick away at every change, but the Eagles battled on to the final siren.
Sam Parlapiano (2 goals) and Enayte Samadi (2 goals) led the scoresheet for the Eagles while Corrie Wilson, Brayden Keown and Keith Dobson excelled through the centre.
Doveton Eagles’ club legend and 300-gamer Paul Davis hung up his boots following the loss.
The one shining light of Doveton Eagles’ season – the goal kicking prowess of Peter Dye – was slightly cruelled on Saturday as his mark was eclipsed by Skye’s Luke McGuiness who kicked 12 goals against Highett to sneak past Dye and take the goal-kicking crown.
Avoiding relegation, Doveton Eagles finished ninth in SFL Division 2 with six wins and 12 losses.
VAFA – DIVISION 3
Pummelled out of the season by the Northern Blues, St Francis Xavier was left to wonder ‘what if’ following a 45-point home-ground loss on Saturday.
The Blues darted away in the second term to kick seven goals to one and the X-Men could not recover the margin no matter how resilient the best efforts of Chris Hughes, Dimi Dimakopoulos (3 goals) and Adam Pavlovic (3 goals) proved.
St Francis Xavier finished nine in VAFA’s Division-3 competition on eight wins and 10 losses.
