CRANBOURNE Superules Football Club has thrown its support behind the Cancer Council’s Call to Arms program with its ‘Clash for Cancer’ game on Sunday a roaring success.
The club’s game against the Carrum Cowboys was dedicated to raising awareness about Men’s Health, and the importance that regular check-ups and seeking advice can play in the early detection and prevention of cancer.
The club has been personally affected by recent experiences and was keen to make a stand – when it comes to Cancer in Men- it’s game on, according to vice president Rodney May.
“Obviously, it’s a very important issue and unfortunately one I’ve had to deal with myself,” he said.
“This was the biggest day the club has ever had, with two functions and the new jumpers really highlighting what the day was all about. Next year we want to take it even further and get all of our players to have health checks prior to the season.”
Local businesses got behind the event with sponsorship of a specially designed guernsey for the game as well as raising funds.
The Cranbourne Superules Football Club has gone from strength to strength over the years and encourages people over 35 to join the club, get fit, and mix in a family based environment.
The club’s home ground at Casey Fields will host the Victorian Metropolitan Superules grand finals on Sunday 14 September, with over 2000 people expected to watch teams – some with ex-AFL players in their ranks- vie for 10 premierships on the day.
