Soak up the experience

EXPERIENCE the sights, sounds and tastes of Casey’s cultural diversity at a free festival in Berwick this month.
Residents are invited to the 2014 Experience Casey Festival on Saturday 30 August at the Brentwood Park Neighbourhood House.
This year’s event will showcase music, dancing, art and food from cultures from around the world to give the community a chance to experience the different cultures that make up Casey, under one roof.
The diverse performances are sure to entertain with groups including the Glenbrae Celtic Dancers, Cultural Historical Association of Rodriguans and Mauritians in Victoria (CHARM) and Sri Lankan Dance Group taking to the stage to keep throughout the day.
There will also be a smorgasbord of workshops for the community to get involved in including Chinese dragon craft, Hinamatsuri doll and Rangoli sand art, face painting, Henna art and balloon art.
City of Casey Mayor Geoff Ablett said he anticipated that this year’s festival would be bigger and better than ever.
“Each year, the Experience Casey Festival brings together people, with backgrounds from all around the world to delight in each other’s differences and bond over their similarities,” he said.
“Visitors to this year’s festival can take in a spectacular performance, learn a new skill at a workshop or even taste an authentic delicacy from across the globe.
“This festival is a fantastic way for council to share with all residents the importance of cultural equality for an inclusive and harmonious community.”
The festival will run from 10am to 2pm on Saturday 30 August at Brentwood Park Neighbourhood House, 21a Bemerside Drive, Berwick.
