Second chance

By BRIDGET COOK

WOMEN of all ages who missed out on doing their debutante ball in high school are being given a second chance to take part in an important moment in every woman’s life.
The Cranbourne-Narre Relay for Life is holding its Second Chance Ball to raise money for the Cancer Council, while giving women the opportunity to be involved in a special night on Friday 17 October.
Event co-ordinator Kirrily Guinan said they planned the event as they thought it was a fun idea that would help them in their fund-raising efforts.
“This will give those people who didn’t participate in a debutante ball when they were at school the opportunity to train for a special night and dance for their family, friends and guests,” she said.
“I have been teaching presentation sets for over 25 years and look forward to sharing this special night with a very dedicated group of young, and young at heart, ladies and gentlemen.
“There are any number of reasons you would like to join us.
“You may have left school before doing your deb or your school may not have offered the chance.
“You may have participated and want to do it again, or want to take part with your husband, or just want to be part of a fantastic local community event.
“Our presentation ball is open to anyone of any age – you just have to take the chance to dance.
“We are so excited to be staging this special fund-raising event and look forward to joining with anyone who wants to get involved.”
Ms Guinan said those involved would also be helping to lead the fight against cancer, along with those signed up for the Relay for Life on 8 and 9 November.
She urged local people to show support for the 920 residents who will be diagnosed with cancer this year by registering for either the ball or the relay.
