PSOs on patrol

PROTECTIVE Services Officers (PSOs) are now patrolling Lynbrook Railway Station.
They hit the platform for the first time on Tuesday night.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich said the officers would patrol the rail platforms, car parks and immediate surrounds.
“PSOs will help prevent anti-social behaviour, property damage, violence and alcohol and transport-related crime at our local station,” she said.
“Just as commuters at rail stations that already have PSOs feel safer, I’m sure the people who use Lynbrook station will feel safer as well.”
Mrs Peulich said Lynbrook was among four stations receiving PSOs this week and they were helping people who use rail stations at night feel safer.
PSOs have issued more than 29,000 infringements at stations across the rail network since their initial deployment in February 2012.
Officers complete a 12-week course that includes the same operational tactics and safety training as Victoria Police officers.
Experienced PSOs mentor newly-graduated officers at city loop rail stations for three months.
