STAR all-rounder on the rise Kevin Seth can’t wait to experience interstate-level cricket again after getting his first taste at the School Sports Australia 12-and-Under Cricket Championships.
Flying to Darwin for the championships last week, Seth, from Cranbourne North, was used primarily as an opening bowler and excelled with his quick/medium pacers as the School Sport Victoria team claimed the national title with a 14-run victory over the dreaded New South Wales line-up.
“It’s an amazing feeling,” Seth said.
“I was really excited to go to Darwin and to play for my state… words can’t even describe it.”
“It was probably one of the best weeks of my life – had the best fun and met players from the other states… it was really good to meet them.”
His last spell in the grand final was exceptional – with four overs at the death going for only two runs with two maidens and also snaring the match-winning wicket.
Seth was the only 12-year-old capable of bowling into the ferocious Darwinian wind, Seth managed to get the red leather to nip and claimed an impressive eight wickets at an average of 10 from his five games.
“I think I did pretty well because I didn’t really get a bat but my bowling I did well to take eight wickets in the carnival and I came fourth in the bowling for the carnival so I’m very proud,” Seth said.
He didn’t get much of a run with the bat, but his one starring innings was a flashy 24 not out coming in at nine against Northern Territory to push the Victorians from 7/87 to 9/128cc before backing up with the ball to claim 3/18.
Seth said his next challenge will be making the School Sport Victoria 15 and under team in a couple of years to keep pursuing his dream of becoming an Australian cricketer.
Seth wanted to thank God, his family and his coaches for their support.
