Reconciled to move forward

THE City of Casey got into the spirit of National Reconciliation Week recently with an official flag raising ceremony.
The Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Australian and Victorian flags were raised together at the ceremony at the Civic Centre in Narre Warren on Friday 30 May, on the traditional land of the Bunurong and Wurundjeri people.
City of Casey mayor Geoff Ablett said the flag raising ceremony was held each year during Reconciliation Week to acknowledge the past, recognise the present and support aspirations for the future.
“Council is proud to take part in National Reconciliation Week and recognise the important contributions that Indigenous residents make in Casey’s community,” he said.
Cr Ablett said the City of Casey was committed to reconciliation and worked closely with Indigenous Australians towards a future that is founded on mutual respect and appreciation.
“We know there is more to be done, but I believe that council’s commitment to the spirit of reconciliation will continue through practical steps which aim to embed understanding and inclusion for all members of our community,” he said.
