DEVON Meadows Primary School’s inaugural billycart derby got off and racing last week.
The senior school students were given the challenge to design and construct a billycart at home, with the help of their parents.
On Friday 20 June, students brought their creations to school and raced them down the hill.
Senior school co-ordinator Paul McCarrick, who organised the project, said families really got behind the initiative.
“I was really impressed with the amount of work that many families had put in to their billy carts,” he said.
“The idea was to get the parents involved in their children’s learning without them having to come to school to be included.
“There was a massive turn-out from parents, grandparents and the wider community for the derby on Friday.
“The event was so successful we have decided to make it a bi-annual event.”
