Panthers pounce on Hutchinson

THE West Gippsland Cricket Association’s District division again looms as its most competitive for season 2014/15, with clubs throughout the grade moving fast to make sure they stay ahead in the arms race.
Devon Meadows is the latest to unveil a big-name signing, with star all-rounder Matthew Hutchinson joining the Panthers for the upcoming season.
The 31-year-old is no stranger to the WGCA, having represented the association at three Country Week campaigns and winning the Glasscock Medal in its last title.
More recently, Hutchinson has carved out an impressive career at Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association (VSDCA) club Endeavour Hills, where he claimed 33 wickets and scored 198 runs last season.
Devon Meadows club president Mick Floyd said he was delighted to snare Hutchinson’s signature.
“We’re excited to have a player of Matt’s ability join us at Pantherland,” he said.
“We think he will not only have a big impact with both bat and ball, but play an important part in the development of our group of our young players.”
For Hutchinson, the move to Glover Reserve represents a new challenge.
“It’s a great opportunity – the ground and facilities are excellent, and there are some very good players on the list,” he said.
“The club has under-achieved over the recent seasons, (and) I’m keen to help turn that around.”
The Panthers will soon announce details for pre-season training and are still keen to hear from players of all standards interested in joining the club. Prospective players can contact Mick Floyd on 0409 426 562 or email mfloyd@grv.org.au.
