CASEY’S most creative young people were recognised for their artistic flair in the Casey Creations Youth Arts Competition.
A special presentation ceremony was held on Thursday 29 May where the winners of the different categories were presented with an award by City of Casey Mayor Geoff Ablett.
There were 37 young people recognised all up, with six students taking out the top prizes.
The junior categories were won by Jessica Kania in the 2D art and Dante Bau in the photography section.
Seth Ngawaka won the visual art category for students in years seven to nine, while Maddelyn Hendrickse won the photographer class for that age bracket.
The visual arts category for students in years 10 to 12 was won by Roshan Ramesh while Bridgette Van Diepen won the photography competition.
More than 2700 entries have been received since the awards were first held in 2002, a number City of Casey Mayor Geoff Ablett said was a significant demonstration of the talents of Casey’s young people.
“The high number of entries just confirms how strong our arts community is and how lucky we are to be able to showcase the incredible talents of Casey’s young people,” he said.
“Each year more and more talented young photographers and visual artists have become involved in this competition and I congratulate them all for having the courage to put their creations forward.”
The MC for the presentation ceremony was 2013 Casey Young Citizen of the Year Sarah Dunstan.
It was attended by award winners, their families, art teachers, school principals and Casey councillors.
