Hallam boys in the ruck

By JARROD POTTER

HALLAM Senior College’s state rugby league pathway continued to cultivate talent with four representatives making the Combined Affiliated States team for the upcoming Schoolboy National Championships.
With their Hallam Senior College team mates, the Victorian Combined Affiliates States schoolboy team smashed apart South Australia 88-0 before a 16-18 loss to Northern Territory after a score on the siren threatened to take the Sam Davey Trophy away from the six-time back-to-back winning champions.
Fortunately the Victorians bounced back in the final to claim the trophy and earn four south-east students the right to represent the combined states.
Leading the charge for Hallam in the Victorian colours were Ben Halfpenny, Eddy Tuilotolava and Melton-based twins Paula and Melvin Fifita – who will play against the best states in Darwin for a chance at an Australian title.
Halfpenny was named best afield against Northern Territory while his classmate James Brooks was best afield in the final.
The Combined Affiliated States Australian team will compete in Darwin during the July school holidays against traditional rugby league powerhouse states New South Wales, Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory.
