SOUTH east female football stars made the most of their representative duties on Saturday – donning the blue and white jerseys of Victoria Metro and Victoria Country.
With Victorian Women’s Football League (VWFL) action off the radar for the weekend, the best of the league’s under-21s donned the state gear for one last top-tier clash the AFL Women’s match on 29 June.
Endeavour Hills-based footballer Ellie Blackburn, who plays for Melbourne University, starred for Victoria Metro under-21s in its 21-point win over Victoria Country on Saturday at Whitten Oval.
Also featuring in Vic Metro U21s victory was Cranbourne’s Jessica Olschyna and former Hallam and Berwick player Aleesha Brindley, who is now plying her craft with the Eastern Devils in the VWFL’s Premier Division.
Across the other side of the representative divide were Cranbourne FC players Kirsten Mcleod, who kicked two goals in the loss, and Chloe McMillan.
Victoria Metro claimed the first victory for the under-21 clash, securing a 9.13 (67) to 6.10 (46) win on the back of a blistering last term from Sarah Perkins to slot three goals.
In the open age Vic Country versus Vic Metro match, it was the Vic Country players who stopped 10 straight Vic Metro wins in a row with a 23-point win.
