Demons in for the win

By DAVID NAGEL

CASEY Cardinia’s interleague team will look to take the next step in its quest for a top-10 ranking in the state when the Demons travel to Simonds Stadium Geelong to take on the Bellarine League in Saturday’s Worksafe VCFL Championships.
The Demons – ranked 18 when original rankings were released in 2012 – have defeated Nepean and Wimmera in the last two years to climb to 14th in the state. A win over Bellarine will see the Demons climb to 12th and play for the coveted top-10 ranking next season.
Pakenham’s 2009 premiership coach, Michael ‘Jock’ Holland, will lead the side from the coach’s box while Narre Warren’s inspirational skipper, Michael Collins, will captain the team.
Collins said he was looking forward to challenging both himself and the team against the best the Bellarine has to offer.
“These guys all just love playing footy and it’s great to test yourself against the best from other leagues,” he said.
“It’s like a grand final in a sense because all the best players are playing. That’s when you get to challenge yourself and see what you can take … see how far you can step up.”
The CCFL team includes two gun full-forwards, with Cranbourne’s Marc Holt and Narre Warren’s Kerem Baskaya having kicked nearly 600 goals between them since the start of 2012.
The game kicks off at noon.
