THE Rotary Club of Cranbourne’s most recent event had great form to be a successful fundraiser – full house, deeps pockets and centred around one of the best racehorses of all time.
And it did not disappoint, with the club raising more than $10,500 at the Black Caviar Phenomenon event held at the Clover Cottage restaurant on 27 February.
All money raised from the event has gone to Blairlogie Living and Learning in Pearcedale towards its work in supporting people with a disability.
Rotary Club of Cranbourne president Lea Corrigan said it was a great night at which former rotary member Colin Madden and his wife Jannene, who is a member of the Cranbourne Inner Wheel, shared their story as part owners of Black Caviar.
“The night was a sell out, with more tickets needed than were available,” he said.
“The Maddens came to tell us how this incredibly lucky purchase of Black Caviar changed their lives.
“Colin concentrated on the horse and its achievements and left Jannene to tell of their meeting with The Queen and other members of the royal family.
“The horse’s incredible record puts it into Australian folklore only matched by Phar Lap and few others.”
Mr Corrigan said the night was a huge success in terms of fundraising and was a great outcome for all involved.
