Police were involved in a foot chase with a 28-year-old man on Friday 28 March about 3pm.
While running across the Tooradin footbridge, the man allegedly threw a back pack into the water.
Police retrieved the bag and found a double barrel, sawed-off shot gun and two live cartridge shells inside.
The man was later located by police in a house in Tooradin.
The man, with no fixed place of abode, was charged with a number of firearm offences.
He has been remanded in custody to appear before the Frankston Magistrates’ Court this week.
