Casey’s dim view of defeat

By JARROD POTTER

CAN Casey be beaten?
Eleven matches into the season, Casey’s senior men, women and youth men’s teams have kept losses off their ledgers.
Casey’s rout of Mornington Breakers in an exciting triple-header left all the Cavaliers teams towards the top of their respective ladders three rounds into the season.
Casey men had the toughest night on the card, fighting out of a double-digit deficit to record a thrilling 86-80 win.
A 29-19 last quarter showed Casey can finish the job when it is forced to chase.
Monster games from Matt Pebole (28 points six rebounds) – playing without a break throughout the match – and Jono Hawes (19 points, seven rebounds) pushed the scoreline back in Casey’s favour while captain Dean Johnson (four points, 16 rebounds, five blocks) was a towering problem the Breakers could not break through.
Cavaliers’ women dispatched a dogged Breakers outfit 55-38 with guard-pair Sammy Johnson (11 points) and Lara Pauline (10 points) leading the score-sheet.
Mornington fought back in the fourth quarter to reduce the margin – keeping Casey to nine points for the term – but in the end the Cavaliers stood tall to run out 17-point victors.
Alex Keates (seven points, nine rebounds) almost reeled in her first double-double of the season.
The youth men started the victorious Saturday with a 71-67 win over Mornington.
Casey men head to Maccabi on Sunday afternoon, Casey women host Western Port on Saturday night and the youth men head to Craigieburn on Saturday.
