Targeting unlocked cars

POLICE have reiterated to motorists the importance of locking their cars as they charged two teens following a spike in theft from cars in Casey recently.
On Thursday, police charged a 14-year-old boy from Cranbourne East and 16-year-old boy from Cranbourne with seven cited counts of theft from cars.
There are also another possible 80 theft from cars and deception charges pending, police said.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Garry Kear said after speaking to the teenagers, it reiterated the importance of people locking their cars.
He alleged the teens were not smashing windows, but walking around targeting unlocked cars and seeing if doors were open.
“It just shows that if you’re locking your car, there’s a good chance you won’t be targeted,” he said.
The two teens were bailed to appear at the Dandenong Children’s Court at a later date.
