WET weather did not dampen the spirits of the hundreds of people who turned out to celebrate the HoIi Festival of Colours in Lynbrook on Saturday.
The Lynbrook Residents Association (LRA) and Jasmine Stores hosted the traditional Hindu festival, where more than 500 people celebrated the colourful affair.
There were a couple of hours of fun at Banjo Paterson Park, before a stormed rolled in about 6pm – but that didn’t affect most as they stayed on to dance in the rain.
LRA events manager Vanessa Watson said despite the rain, the event was extremely successful even though the Bollywood moonlit cinema screening had to be cancelled due to the weather.
“Everyone in attendance had an amazing time and we have been so excited and enthused by the feedback we have received,” she said.
“The powdered area was a huge hit, and was enjoyed by all ages, and by people from many cultures.
“Even during the heaviest of the rain, people still enjoyed the colour area and were seen dancing in the rain.
“Holi traditionally has a water element and our committee did discuss rigging up an overhead irrigation system to have a wet holy area.
“We decided against it for logistical reasons, but Mother Nature went ahead with the idea anyway.”
