Horse skills in good stead

By DANIELLE GALVIN

HORSES are being sought to help develop the skills of people with all abilities at the Doveton Myuna Farm.
Riding Develops Abilities (RDA) in Doveton is after two or three horses to help with their work in the City of Casey.
Volunteer and committee member Gloria O’Connor said they were hoping to have more horses to work with the riders to help them gain a variety of skills.
The horses need to be in good physical condition, with a placid temperament and have had experience in group riding activities.
“An initial trial period is undertaken to ensure compatibility and ability for RDA purposes after which a new horse is gradually introduced to the working program,” she said.
“Welfare of RDA horses is a high priority with good quality feeding, farrier and veterinary services always available.
“A number of Doveton Centre horses have been with the team at Myuna Farm for many years.
“Their agistment at Myuna Farm is in secure paddocks with trees and shelter shedding.”
Ms O’Connor said a committee appointed horse welfare group monitored the welfare of the horses.
“Horses can be viewed in the indoor arena, adjoining stalls and sand yard or in the agistment paddocks,” she said.
Doveton Centre is open while riding sessions are held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday between 10am and 3pm when coaches and volunteers are on site.
Ms O’Connor encouraged horse owners in the community to get in touch with RDA in Doveton.
