Bombs found in park

By BRIDGET COOK

POLICE had to cordon off parts of Churchill National Park on Saturday to detonate one of two pipe bombs found in the Endeavour Hills park.
The CFA were first called to the park, along Churchill Park Drive, about 6pm on Saturday night after a passer-by spotted a plume of smoke coming from the shrub area.
The fire was started from one of two pipe bombs placed at the park and when it exploded it caused a shrub fire which spread to about half an acre.
The CFA located another bomb nearby, which had yet to explode.
Police attended to cordon off the area so the bomb response unit could come and detonate the explosive.
Casey CIU Detective Sergeant Darron Hedge urged anyone with information to call the police, due to the dangerous nature of the offence.
“They are very dangerous,” he said.
“I’m glad police got to it before anyone else found it.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
