Young people speak up

TWO events which will shine the spotlight on Casey’s young people have received funding as part of National Youth Week grants.
The City of Casey received $2000 from the State Government for its Rock’n’Skate event and the Southern Ethnic Advisory and Advocacy Council received the same for its Youth Arts and Music Festival.
The events will be run during National Youth Week in April, which aims to celebrate the contribution that young people make to their community.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich said preparations would now be underway following the funding announcement.
“The theme for 2014 – Our Voice. Our Impact – is about ensuring that young people have opportunities to speak up about the things that matter to them, and most importantly, to be heard.” she said.
Minister for Youth Affairs Ryan Smith said National Youth Week was about young people getting involved in local activities that have been designed by them and for them.
“These grants support a wide range of activities that reflect the diversity of Victoria’s young people,” he said.
“I look forward to another very successful National Youth Week, especially as one of the biggest celebrations for young people in Australia.”
To choose the winners of the grants, 28 young people participated in a two-day workshop to assess the grant applications.
National Youth Week will take place 4 to 13 April.
