Never too old

By BRIDGET COOK

Cranbourne U3A is proof that people are never too old too learn a new skill.
And the organisation is urging older people to do just that, by signing up for its classes.
U3A (University of the Third Age) is for people aged over 55-years-old and aims to give them an opportunity to take a range of classes, make friends and learn new skills.
The organisation held its open day last week to promote its programs in the community.
Tutor co-ordinator Anne Thompson urged Casey’s older residents to get involved to keep their mind and body active.
“It is aimed for the over 55s, who might be retired or no longer have children living at home and want to get out and do something while meeting people,” she said.
“Come along a have a look and see if there are any classes that interest you.
“A lot of friendships have been made through the U3A. It’s not only a place to learn, but also have conversation with someone, and have fun.”
Ms Thomspon said there was something for everyone to enjoy.
The U3A offer classes including calligraphy, computers for all levels, card making, singing for fun, Italian, French, patchwork and arts and craft.
There is just a one off, yearly fee of $50 and people can take part in as many classes as they like.
Classes run every day of the week from the Casey Indoor Leisure Centre.
