Don’t rubbish our suburb

By BRIDGET COOK

A CRANBOURNE North woman has sent a strong message to her neighbourhood – stop dumping your rubbish and giving the suburb a bad name.
Bev, who did not want her last name used, said herself and other residents were sick of people throwing rubbish over their fence rather than disposing of it correctly.
Bev said the problem was with houses whose back fences are along the South Gippsland Highway in Cranbourne North, which branch off Waverley Park Drive.
“People are throwing rubbish, particular their green waste, over the fence and onto the grassland along the South Gippsland Highway,” she said.
“There have been Christmas trees, stuffing from pillows and tree clippings and plenty of other rubbish.
“We all have the bins for green waste – use them.”
Bev said she has reported the problem to Casey council but without proof of who is doing it there’s not a lot that can be done.
“That is why I want people to know that myself and other residents are onto them,” she said.
“I’m sure people aren’t walking and dumping their rubbish, it’s coming from over the fences.
“I’ve even seen one woman doing it.”
Bev said the South Gippsland Highway was a main thoroughfare into Cranbourne and the rubbish made the suburb look bad.
“It’s just not fair that we all pay our rates to have the area looking nice, yet residents keep dumping their rubbish,” she said.
“People driving through would be thinking Cranbourne is a dump of a place, just because a few people can’t do the right thing.
“I want to bring it to people’s attention that we know it’s coming from over the fence and to stop.”
