Maddie home for good

By BRIDGET COOK

A SURRENDERED dog whose story generated huge support on social media now has a new forever home.
Cranbourne resident Lisa and her friend found what they believed to be an abandoned dog, that they named Maddie, in a bad way at a rental property last month.
Lisa contacted council officers who collected Maddie, took her to the Lost Dogs Home and her owners were contacted.
Lisa started up a Facebook page called ‘Maddie Matters’ which attracted almost 2000 likes, calling for her to be allowed to adopt Maddie because she feared she may be euthanised.
City of Casey manager community safety Caroline Bell said the dog now has a new home with Lisa this week but confirmed that she was not abandoned, malnourished, abused or harmed by her previous owner.
“After an investigation by council, Barbie was surrendered by her previous owner, which made it possible for her new owner to adopt her,” she said.
“The investigation into Barbie’s previous owner is still underway.
“Council does not condone animal neglect or cruelty and has a record of investigating all matters thoroughly and taking legal action when it is warranted.”
Lisa said she was thrilled she was able to take over ownership of Maddie.
“I had been considering getting a friend for Stevie, my existing dog, but was in no hurry,” she said.
“When Maddie was found, I knew she needed a loving home and she was welcomed into my family.
“I am so happy to be able to show her the life and love that she deserves.
“Maddie will get lots of love and attention from me and Stevie when he warms up to her.
“She will also be walked regularly, groomed regularly, and have regular vet visits as needed.
“She now has her own warm bed, kennel, jumpers and blankets.”
