Lingering eyesore

By BRIDGET COOK

A CRANBOURNE worker has expressed her anger over the inaction over dumped rubbish which she claims has sat there for more than eight months.
Jo, who works at Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre, said trolleys full of dumped rubbish had sat in the centre’s car park for at least eight months despite numerous calls to the council.
She said prior to that, another pile of rubbish remained in the car park for well over a year before it was collected.
“For the past eight months, I sit everyday looking at rubbish that accumulates in the car park area, particularly behind in the car park behind Pharmore,” she said.
“I have contacted both the council and centre management about it on so many occasions, I’m sick of ringing.
“The council has handed out parking fines there, and trimmed the trees yet the rubbish has not been touched.
“The pile has just gotten bigger, it’s overflowing and now smells as it has sat there so long.
“It’s not only us that are unhappy about it, but also other business owners.
“It’s an eyesore and degrades the town.”
Jo said she hoped reports would be followed up quicker in the future, particularly with the planned $110 million redevelopment of the centre.
City of Casey manager roads and construction Wayne Mack said the rubbish would be removed by the council this week.
“In 2013, there has been one request regarding rubbish in the council-managed car park between High Street and Lamb Street, Cranbourne,” he said.
“In response to this request, council undertook maintenance and rubbish collection.
“Council has a routine cleansing program that includes litter collection in car parks in designated shopping centre areas, including the car park in Cranbourne between High Street and Lamb Street.
Council has undertaken a site inspection and is aware that there is a small amount of rubbish in the council-managed car park behind Pharmore.
“This rubbish will be removed by council this week.”
