THE Cranbourne community has got the film rolling on calls for a cinema to be returned to the suburb.
With the announcement of the $110 million revamp of Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre, readers have taken to the News online forums to call for a cinema to be included in the redevelopment.
While there were rumours circulating that a cinema was planned, the centre owners confirmed this week that there were none planned as part of the current redevelopment.
Cranbourne used to have a cinema complex, but it closed down more than eight years ago.
Cranbourne resident Laura Coomber said she believed it needed to be brought back.
“I think Cranbourne needs the cinema back as its population is growing so fast and it would benefit the young, the old and teenagers,” she said.
“I think it would be great for the residents of Tooradin, Five Ways and Warneet areas also.
“I think it will be great for the ever growing families and teenagers in the area as it would give our children something to enjoy without the dreaded hassle of worrying about getting to Fountain Gate along the dreaded busy Narre Warren Cranbourne Road or have them catching public transport especially if it’s a later movie.
“It would also bring jobs and business economy to Cranbourne.”
Ms Coomber said the one cinema at Fountain Gate was not enough to service the large Casey community.
“I avoid Fountain Gate at all costs as it’s far too busy and hard to find a car park especially with young children,” she said.
