Sign of things to come

By BRIDGET COOK

A LACK of signage to highlight the change of direction on Pound Road has been confusing motorists for more than 10 years, according to Maurice Browne.
The Clyde resident says he has been pushing VicRoads for quite some time to install a sign along Pound Road to alert drivers that they have to turn right to stay on the road.
When heading east along the road from Hampton Park to Narre Warren, it turns into Shrives Road and drivers have to make a right turn to stay on Pound Road.
Mr Browne said there has been no sign to let drivers know that.
“I first became aware of the issue about 10 years ago when I worked for the ambulance service,” he said.
“We had trouble finding a house, because there was nothing to tell us that we were no longer on Pound Road.
“I rang VicRoads at the time but nothing was done.
“If people don’t know there area it could be very confusion and even cause crashes.”
Mr Browne said he visited Hampton Park about six weeks ago and realised there was still no sign.
“I have rang VicRoads four or five times since then and still nothing has been done,” he said.
“I’m disgusted that they take so long to take some action.”
VicRoads acting regional director Con Stasinos said the complaint had been investigated.
“Following community concerns, VicRoads has investigated the need for a directional sign to be installed at the intersection of Pound Road and Shrives Road for road users travelling east,” he said.
“A directional sign will be installed on Pound Road, prior to the intersection, facing road users travelling east by the end of November 2013.”
