CASEY is celebrating the contribution senior citizens make to the community this month with its Ageing Positively Festival.
The annual event, held in conjunction with the Victorian Seniors Festival, is running until Sunday 20 October with a range of events and activities on offer for Casey’s seniors.
The festival celebrates the contributions made by older residents to the community through work, volunteering and community life.
There will be an event for everyone over the next two weeks from cooking to fitness, health and well-being sessions and social gatherings.
There’s also golf, cricket, dancing, bushwalking, creative writing, computer classes, information sessions and an open day at the Old Cheese Factory.
One of the events to be held already this week was the multicultural lunch on Tuesday, put on by the Hampton Park Turkish Seniors.
City of Casey mayor Amanda Stapledon encouraged older residents to get involved and make the most of this year’s festival.
“One of the many reasons the City of Casey is a great place to live, work and raise a family are the individuals contributing to our community,” she said.
“At Casey we focus on the person, not the age.
“We are committed to representing the diverse interests and needs of older people in Casey by challenging attitudes about ageing, and raising awareness about the positive contributions that older people make to the community.”
The festival coincides with Victorian Seniors Week, aiming to promote health and well-being in seniors, introduce residents to new activities and bring people together from a range of cultural and geographical backgrounds.
