CASEY residents can view and purchase more than 300 artworks by some of the best Australian artists at an exhibition in Narre Warren this week.
Casey will be the only Victorian stop for the Kevin Hill’s Top 10 Australian Artists professional art show, which is touring the country.
Kevin Hill told the News that he and his wife Cheryl had been bringing art and top artists to Casey for the past nine years.
The exhibition will feature some of Australia’s most popular artists, from the quirky outback depictions of Max Mannix, to the works of Paul Margocsy and Ern Trembath featuring a variety of paintings capturing Australia’s culture.
Mr Hill said he recognised the talent of Mr Margocsy almost 20 years ago and invited him to join his ’top 10′ Australian artists.
Mr Margocsy was born in Melbourne in August 1945. He had no formal art training but developed a love for painting at an early age, and in 1978 he became engrossed in wildlife art and concentrated on improving his technique. His paintings began to sell which led to outstanding exhibitions and sales around Australia.
In 1985, he became a member of The Wildlife Art Society of Australasia. The following year he won the award for the best painting at their exhibition and a year later, won the best watercolour exhibit. His paintings are widely reproduced in books and also Australian stamps.
Mr Margocsy’s talent for depicting wildlife and his extraordinary gift for detail has seen his exhibitions selling in many countries and his international reputation acknowledges him as one of the best wildlife artists in the world.
City of Casey mayor Amanda Stapledon said the art show was a great opportunity for the public to view and purchase original artworks, with more than 300 works on display.
“The exhibition will give Casey residents the chance to meet accomplished and talented artists from around Australia, as well as Do Noble, a local artist from Casey, who has been invited to take part in the exhibition,” she said.
“The free event attracts hundreds of people from across Victoria each year.”
Those attending the event will have the chance to win an original painting by featured artist Max Mannix.
Most of the artists will be at the exhibition all weekend to talk to people and personalise purchases with a message and signature on the back.
The exhibition will be open from 9.30am to 5pm on Saturday 5 October and from 9am to 4pm on Sunday 6 at City of Casey Council Chambers, Magid Drive, Narre Warren.
