Stage spectacular

CASEY students lit up the stage in a performance spectacular this month, with Kooweerup Secondary taking out the top honours for the second year running.
More than 200 local performers took part in the City of Casey’s annual Schools on Stage spectacular on Thursday 12 September.
Entertainer Tim Campbell, best known for his role as Dan Baker on Home and Away, hosted the event at the Hillcrest Theatre in Clyde North.
Kooweerup Secondary College’s performance of Annie impressed the judging panel and took out the top prize of $2000 and Hillcrest Christian College came runner-up.
Cranbourne East Secondary College was also a big winner on the night, taking home three awards, including Best Team Work and Audience Choice Award.
Alkira Secondary College won the Open Division category and Casey Grammar School was award Best Song.
Jack Lewis was named the Best Individual Performer.
City of Casey mayor Amanda Stapledon congratulated all the students and their teachers who put in hours of rehearsals to create wonderful performances.
“The Schools on Stage initiative is a wonderful opportunity for council to support the creative endeavours and talents of the young people in Casey,” she said.
Cr Stapledon said the event encouraged young people to remain engaged at school by supporting participation in extra-curricular activities.
“We want the very best for young people in Casey and education is one of the most important success factors for their future,” she said.
