CITY of Casey Mayor Amanda Stapledon accepted a nomination from fellow councillor Sam Aziz to be the city’s next delegate in China, later this year.
After a trip to China earlier this year, Cr Aziz is eager to maintain relationships with trade investors in China and promote the developing municipality which is the City of Casey.
Cr Aziz asked that the city’s mayor be the next representative to attend China and continue the city’s trade mission with this country.
Cr Stapledon accepted the nomination and will embark on a trip to China in October.
The Victorian Government announced a Super Trade Mission to China from 21-25 October this year, with the exact itinerary yet to be confirmed.
Cr Aziz explained that the purpose of these trips was to ‘sell the City of Casey and its projects’ while looking for private investors.
He mentioned that during his last trip, which included travelling through four different cities, there was significant interest from investors in China.
At a council meeting last Tuesday, the City of Casey Council confirmed its support in sending a ‘modest delegation’ to join the Super Trade mission, and the Premier of Victoria, to see first-hand the opportunities and meet with representatives from the Foreign Affairs Department of Chengdu and Suzzhou.
