LYNDHURST Primary School was one of six lucky schools in Casey to receive a State Government grant of $10,000 to reduce energy use and promote sustainability practices.
These six schools are among 200 across the state.
South Eastern Region MP Inga Peulich said the grants would undertake energy audits and install equipment such as energy efficient light bulbs, door and window draught seals, small wind generators or replacing less energy efficient appliances.
Lyndhurst Primary School principal Greg Lacey said news of receiving the grant was a good thing for the school.
“We applied for the green grant to support energy saving measures around the school,” Mr Lacey said.
“Most of the funding will go to tinting the windows and blinds to reduce the heat levels. We have no air-conditioning and rely on passive cooling across the school.”
Mr Lacey said the school was working towards a five-star accreditation as a resource smart school, and said it was part of the school curriculum.
Other schools to receive the grant include, St Agatha’s Primary School, Alkira Secondary College, Cranbourne East Primary School, Narre Warren South P-12 College and Nossal High School.
