Bikers run out of road

By BRIDGET SCOTT

THIS year may mark the last year that the Motorcycling Riders Association (MRA) will be involved in the Cranbourne GP Run.
A recent lack of support for the group has forced the club to shut down and hand over the club’s administration to the Victorian Motorcycling Council.
October’s Cranbourne GP may be the last major event which the group is involved in before the handover.
Caretaker president Grant Delahoy said after a recent drop in membership numbers, the handover is a step in the right direction.
“We wanted to keep the club going – so we’re swapping to a council structure,” he said.
Mr Delahoy said the club was looked at trying to address issues within the club.
The MRA was founded as an advocacy group for motorbike riders, and has long been involved in local charity events in the City of Casey.
Mr Delahoy said membership numbers dropped so dramatically that the club could not elect a board.
He also said that the club approached Consumer Affairs Victoria which will take ownership of the club and act on advice from the MRA as to who should take over.
With a date not yet confirmed as to when the actual handover will take place, Mr Delahoy said the club still looks forward to being part of major charity events.
The Victorian Motorcycle Council boasts about 30,000 members from throughout Victoria.
