THE man convicted of murdering Cranbourne West teen Gary Adams was sentenced to 27 years in jail on Friday.
According to The Age, Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth Curtain also imposed a non-parole period of 24 years on John Xypolitos.
Xypolitos, 57, murdered Gary in December 2003, after which he disposed of the teenager’s body parts throughout Melbourne’s Central Business District.
The Age also reported that Xypolitos, Gary’s mother’s former partner, dumped parts of the 17-year-old’s body in his own mother’s house in Hughesdale.
Xypolitos was found guilty by a jury last month and will not be eligible for parole until he is in his early eighties.
Garry’s mother last saw her only child on Friday 2 December, when he put up the family’s Christmas tree.
Last time Joanne Adams spoke to the News, she also said that he was looking forward to decorating the entire house, but this never happened.
According to Garry’s mother, his case was not taken seriously until seven months after his disappearance.
In 2008 she told the news she felt the case had been buried.
The Age newspaper reported that years later, when senior homicide detective Ron Iddles took over the investigation in 2010, an operation targeting Xypolitos was set up.
