Ride to Conquer Cancer

By BRIDGET SCOTT

A BUSINESS owner from Pearcedale has made the decision that she will help combat cancer.
On 26 October, Jenny Patience will embark on the two day ‘Ride to Conquer Cancer’ event and believes the benefits of an event like this are two-fold.
“What better way to help than do the ride,” she said.
“I will be able to challenge myself, and help out a great cause.”
Ms Patience has already raised a remarkable $4720 and is sitting at number 36 for the top fundraisers for the ride.
Ms Patience said she decided about two months ago that she would take part in the event.
“I have had quite a few family and friends touched by cancer,” the rider said.
“Some have got through, and others haven’t.”
Jenny will participate in the ride alongside one of her colleagues Brendan.
City of Casey Balla Balla Ward councillor Geoff Ablett commended the pair on their effort.
“Jenny and Brendan are truly inspiring,” he said.
“I encourage everyone to get behind the Ride to Conquer Cancer, and support this important cause, with all proceeds going to the Peter MaCallum Cancer Centre.”
Ms Patience explained a big draw card for this ride is the fact that Peter Mac is the only hospital solely dedicated to cancer research.
Training is currently underway for the pair, but Ms Patience has said the bad weather of late has not helped.
“We have been on the bikes inside but we will be getting out as soon as possible,” she said.
She is still yet to hold a raffle night called On the Deck which will take place on 24 August and include the raffling of signed memorabilia.
Jenny was presented with a certificate at a City of Casey Council meeting earlier this month which congratulated her on her fundraising efforts.
Many Councillors also donated part of their ward funds to the ride.
Anyone who wishes to donate to the ride in October can do so by visiting www.conquercancer.org.au.
