CASEY, Cardinia and Greater Dandenong residents now have improved access to legal advice and support.
Casey Cardinia Community Legal Service will receive an extra $400,000 in funding over the next four years, Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus, Bruce MP Alan Griffin and Holt MP Anthony Byrne announced in Dandenong on Friday.
Mr Dreyfus said the funding would improve access to legal advice and support, and would make a real difference to people in south-eastern Melbourne.
Mr Griffin said that with more frontline lawyers and staff, there was the capacity to expand services.
“The boost will enable the Casey Cardinia Community Legal Service to help meet the demand for free legal advice and financial counselling in the area,” he said.
This funding is part of an extra $33.5 million over four years for community legal centres across Australia and is already included in the budget.
The new funding for community legal centres is in addition to the $32 million already provided annually under the Australian Government’s Community Legal Services Program.
