FITNESS fanatic Luis Fabres keeps on climbing up with the challenges he sets for himself.
That is why this month the Lynbrook resident will take on Australia’s longest consecutive stair climb challenge – Stadium Stomp MCG.
Mr Fabres, 29, will attempt to complete the full course of the challenge on Sunday 16 June which will see him tackle 7343 steps, walking up or down every flight of stairs on the top and bottom seating levels of the MCG.
For Mr Fabres it isn’t about raising money, but about setting another challenge for himself.
“I enjoy stair climbing,” he said.
“The Eureka Stair Climb 2011 was the first event I ever participated in and I became hooked.
“I had a weight loss of 40kg the previous year and I would spend hours at the 1000 Steps as part of my program.
“I guess steps got embedded in my head.
“This is also a training session for the Eureka Stair Climb 2013 which I’m hoping to complete in under 11 minutes.”
Mr Fabres said he was confident he would be able to finish the challenge.
“Hopefully I won’t have a problem,” he said.
“I currently take part in three boot camp sessions a week with a local business and try to hit the 1000 steps at least once a week,” he said.
Anyone 14 years and older can enter Stadium Stomp MCG as individuals or in teams.
Anyone can form their own team or join a team that has already entered and is looking for more members.
There will also be a designated spectators’ viewing area so friends and family can watch the action.
Staggered start times from 8am to 3pm will ensure the stairs won’t become too congested.
People can still register for the event, and nominate a preferred charity to fundraise for if they wish, at www.stadiumstomp.com.au.
