Club digs deep

By DANIELLE GALVIN

FOUR Cora Lynn footballers have been overwhelmed by the support of their club and their community after they lost their Clyde home in a fire last week.
On Saturday after the Cobras’ Round 8 EDFL clash against Poowong, friends and family and the wider community are being urged to head to the club rooms for the ‘Dig Deep in Relief’ fundraiser to help get the boys back on their feet.
Nick Helsby and Liam Toole were home last Monday evening when a fire spread through their Clyde rental. The players rent with mates Tom Arnett and Rob Matthews, whose family own the house.
Rob lives in a bungalow on the Clyde Five Ways Road property.
Nick told the News he was touched by the support of friends and family following the incident.
“We just want to say thanks to everyone that has helped out, the support is really appreciated and overwhelming,” he said.
One of their friends, Adam Wadeson, said it was all about the footy club community coming together.
“Nick, Liam and Tom lost everything – couches, televisions, beds, dryers, washing machine, their whole wardrobes,” he said.
“The captain of the senior football side Tim Payne and the club are organising it all and asked me to help out as I’m best mates with the boys, figured it was the least I could do seeing as I’ve crashed on their couch countless times.”
The four players will line-up the game on Saturday and Adam encouraged everyone to get down to the club and help them out.
“Naturally they are all feeling pretty flat about the situation, having to start from scratch again is a pretty daunting task, they had been living there six months now so they were all pretty well set up,” he said.
“The function is open to anyone, the more people that are there, the more that’s raised for the boys.
“Anyone who wishes to donate that can’t make it to the function, can donate into a temporary bank account that we have set up.”
