Hip dancers’ brush with fame

By BRIDGET COOK

CRANBOURNE dance duo Little Munchkins Dance Crew have caught the attention of a few celebrities in the past, but no one to the calibre of their latest fans.
Hip-hop and breakdancing brothers Ryan, 13, and Jaryd Bennett, 10, had the experience of a lifetime on Sunday night when they were invited to perform to Walk This Way with Aerosmith at their Sidney Myer Music Bowl concert.
Their mother Keryn said it all started after the world-famous band spotted the boys during their regular busking session outside Crown Casino on Saturday night, where they also recently caught the eye of Redfoo, from American electronic dance music duo LMFAO.
“A woman came up to Ryan and asked where their mother was,” she said.
“She came over to me and said ‘I’m Aerosmith’s secretary and Steven Tyler wants to know if the boys will perform with them on Sunday night’.
“They had been sitting in a restaurant for a couple of hours watching the boys.”
The boys dream came true the next night when they were on stage in front of thousands of screaming fans, dancing alongside one of the biggest bands in the world.
“They had their own dressing room, and Steven Tyler kept coming in and making them feel welcome,” Ms Bennett said.
“The boys got to pick his outfit for the night, got photos with him and he kept coming in a joking around with them and even gave them the ‘dad talk’.”
Ryan said getting up on stage with the crowd roaring was sensational.
“We weren’t really nervous, we just wanted to jump on stage and show everyone we we’ve got,” he said.
Jared said it was their dream come true.
“You would never expect that a gigantic celebrity would see us and invite us to dance with them,” he said.
