Three drown

A HAMPTON Park man was one of three men across Victoria to die from drowning on Saturday.
Just before 3pm beach-goers saw a man’s body washed up against rocks on the Rye back beach.
Swimmers managed to drag the man ashore but he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The Hampton Park man, aged in his 30s, had been at the beach snorkelling with friends.
Earlier that day, at 12.30pm, a 62-year-old Noble Park man drowned after he entered the water at Lorne to assist a 12-year-old-boy who got into difficulties.
The third incident happened at Golden Beach near Loch Sport when a 44-year-old Pakenham man died after he rescued a 10-year-old boy from the water.
The man had just managed to push the child off on a wave, taking him in closer to the shore, when he was swept away.
A man on a surf-board plucked the boy to safety but the man who originally assisted the boy disappeared from view.
Two campers located the man’s body floating in shallow water just before 6pm.
