CASEY residents are being invited to sign a petition calling on the urgent duplication of the congested Thompsons Road.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley called on the State Government to upgrade Thompsons Road, between South Gippsland Highway and Western Port Highway, in Parliament last week.
Ms Graley has now started a petition calling for the improvements which will be at two Cranbourne North locations on Saturday where residents can sign it.
Ms Graley said that Thompsons Road was an important east-west link for local families and businesses, with more than 24,000 vehicles using this section of the road each day.
“I am regularly contacted by concerned residents fed up with the congestion and constant delays they face on their daily commute,” she said.
“They have had enough of the regular accidents and lengthy delays, particularly at the level crossing and the intersection of Thompsons Road and Western Port Highway.
Ms Graley said that local residents didn’t deserve to be stuck in traffic.
“Local residents need the new premier to make fixing our roads a priority of his government,” she said.
“Stop the excuses, fix Thompsons Road and ensure local residents spend less time stuck in traffic and more time with their families.”
A VicRoads spokeswoman said VicRoads was investigating the possible future upgrade of Thompsons Road and has recently introduced a public acquisition overlay into planning schemes to ensure that sufficient land is reserved to accommodate a future upgrade.
“A proposal to duplicate Thompsons Road between Dandenong-Frankston Road and the South Gippsland Highway will be considered for future funding,” she said.
Residents can sign the petition at Thompsons Parkway Shopping Centre on Saturday between 10 and 11am and Eve Central Shopping Centre between 11am and noon.
