WITH DDCA cricketers left to bask in the sun after an early wash-out decision on Saturday, the action was all focused on Sunday, with the remaining round one fixtures decided.
All round six matches will be played as one-dayers this week to finish off 2012.
COOMOORA v DOVETON
Doveton (7/158) couldn’t shake off their December woes, this time bested by Coomoora (8/168cc). From a commanding early position, dismissing David Nutting (4) and Chalitha Halambage (6), Jake D’Atri (54) and Andrew O’Meara (12) weathered a barrage from Scott White and Brad Downe, at one stage getting only one run from four overs including a 19-ball scoreless run. O’Meara broke the shackles with a four, before D’Atri got into the action along with Rob Johnston (25) and Lance Baptist (31). From a solid position at 4/157, Coomoora was skittled in the last few overs, losing their last four wickets for 11 runs. Nathan Wilson (4/25) and Ryan Hendy (2/28) were the best of the bowlers.
In response, Coomoora shared the wickets to restrict the Doves to 158. Ben Baxter (56) was the prime mover for Doveton, but there were too many starts around him and no one cashing in. Baptist (2/33) was the best of the Kangaroos’ bowlers. The flightless Doves languish in last and face Buckley Ridges before the break.
NARRE WARREN v HEINZ SOUTHERN DISTRICTS
A 112-run stand between Nathan King (70) and Ateeq Javid (73) put Narre Warren (7/193cc) into a winning position over Heinz Southern Districts (8/166cc). After the young Magpies smashed the Cobras about, Garrick Wiramanaden (2/24) and Matt Davies (2/37) started eking out the wickets. Javid batted on to hold the innings together, but was eventually dismissed just shy of the conclusion to Davies. In response, Heinz fell 27 runs short with Justin Van Elewoud (32), Trevor Davies (28) and Matt Davies (20) doing the heavy lifting with the blade. King took 3/31, including the top three wickets of Matt Downe (10), Keith Perumal (0) and a big quacky-quack on Turf 1 debut for Daniel Morrison (0). Jarryd Straker (2/19) opened the bowling and proved miserly for the Pies. Narre Warren moves up to fifth and squares off against Hallam Kalora Park while Heinz sits in ninth and hosts Springvale South.BERWICK v DANDENONG WEST
Played last Sunday, Berwick (6/205) knocked off flag favourites Dandenong West (8/182), with Ryan Crawford (68 not out and 5/22) smashing the Wests. Crawford started proceedings with a quick-fire 68 not out, working in tandem with Bathiya Perera (26) and captain Jarrod Goodes (34) to push past the double-century. In reply, Crawford removed danger-pair Justin Stanton (14) and Alex Roberts (12) on the cheap before Matt Fielding (69) and David Weerden (39) started to eat into the lead. Once again, Crawford came to the rescue and picked up Fielding and Anthony Brannan (10) to push the Wests out of the fight to push Berwick up to sixth on the ladder.
SPRINGVALE SOUTH v HALLAM KALORA PARK
Alex Nelson Reserve removed all hope of the Bloods and Eagles taking the field on Sunday, with a washout draw declared.
TURF 2
SOUTHERN PIRATES v NARRE SOUTH
Naveen Perera (51) and Mark Nelson (46) guided the Lions (4/160) to a winning score over Southern Pirates (126). Zeeshan Azhar (25 not out) got in on the run-scoring late to push the total to 160 before the bowlers knocked out the Pirates, with Jack Ritchie (2/16) the best of the Lions. Narre South moves up to fifth and faces Narre North at home.
HEINZ SOUTHERN DISTRICTS v ST BRIGIDS/ST LOUIS
The Cobras easily rattled St Brigids/St Louis (94) from the crease, with Russell Abraham (3/8), Jackson Philpin (3/23) and Canute Jacob (2/38) doing the main damage before an even bigger collapse dismissed Heinz for 57. Abraham (15) tied with extras as the most successful scoring aspect of the Cobras’ innings, with the side slumping to 7/22 before a mini-revival helped push them past 50. Heinz remains pointless in Turf 2 and faces Springvale South.
CRANBOURNE v SILVERTON
The blitz was in at Cranbourne as Cameron Kelly (3/17), Rob Cleland (2/9) and Brendan Wood (2/10) dismissed Silverton (88) on the cheap. The response didn’t fare too well at the start with Ben Maroney (0) out without troubling the scorers before Faisal Payenda (24), Matt Darvell (25) and Te Ahu Davis (21) knocking off the runs within 25 overs. Cranbourne sits second behind Lyndale and faces Keysborough.
